Further Details Released After 61-Year-Old Patricia Britt Was Shot and Killed at South of the Border in Dillon County, South Carolina Authorities in Dillon County have released new details surrounding the tragic shooting that claimed the life of 61-year-old Patricia Britt at the well-known tourist attraction, South of the Border.

The fatal incident occurred on Thursday, June 27, 2025, and has led to the arrests of three individuals: Tina Rebecca Pernell, Ja’Heem Antwan Pernell, and Aalyiah Monique Priest.According to law enforcement, the incident unfolded during what began as a dispute at a location on the South of the Border property.

Patricia Britt, a Marlboro County resident, was fatally struck by gunfire during the confrontation. Emergency personnel responded swiftly, but Britt was pronounced dead at the scene. The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, but officials believe it may have stemmed from an escalating argument involving multiple parties.

Following an intensive investigation by Dillon County Sheriff’s Office and SLED (South Carolina Law Enforcement Division), all three suspects were taken into custody without incident. Tina Rebecca Pernell, 46, Ja’Heem Antwan Pernell, 20, and Aalyiah Monique Priest, 22, are now facing serious charges in connection with the homicide.

The suspects have each been charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Authorities confirmed that additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation develops. All three are currently being held at the Dillon County Detention Center without bond.
